OVERVIEW

Execution

Rather than leaning into meat-shaming, we wanted to appeal to a broad coalition of people, young and old, and ask them to think critically about their meat consumption, as well as asking for their help to pressure governments and corporations into saving our forests. So, our solution was a child-friendly story with a gut-wrenching flip, animated in a raw, emotive, hand-drawn, 2d style.

A variety of techniques were used. The industrial world was painted in a brutal and more impressionistic way, using a limited red and black colour palette, with split screen used to accentuate its rigid and invasive nature. The designs of Jag-wah and the rainforest were inspired by indigenous artwork to ensure they represented the Indigenous Peoples who are also victims. The meat alternatives were elevated with a touch of Japanese-anime-inspired gloss and our final renewed planet was a Cartoon Saloon signature circular composition.
