Background

The brief was to engage the world's population through a petition. The purpose of the petition was to influence world leaders at the Global Refugee Forum to take action on the refugee situation.

Today, over 110 million people are displaced from war, violence and persecution. Although seeking safety is a human right, many people continue to be denied this right. Thankfully, 78% of people still believe in this right to seek safety (IPSOS 2022). So, our emotional objective was to reach this 78% to increase public solidarity and action. UNHCR’s objective was to engage local markets and get people to protect the right to seek safety by signing the petition.

Execution

Inspired by true stories, the film is a poetic and raw portrayal of the powerlessness people experience when forced to flee. We visualized this with a metaphorical force that in various ways takes control of the characters' lives. And as from one moment to the next, they are tossed around in a world where their fate lies in the hands of others.

Outcome

The film was shared widely by politicians, cultural personalities, and people from across the world, and gained 289 million impressions on X in two months. And most importantly, it engaged the target audience beyond expectations, collecting 1.2 million unique signatures in the same period, which were presented to world leaders at the Global Refugee Forum. Fortunately, this led to a record number of pledges to support refugees and their right to seek safety.
