Description

Online fraud is so slick it’s almost impossible to spot. Leaving those scammed wishing “If only I’d spotted it sooner”

This became the inspiration for our idea:

IF ONLY ALL FRAUD WAS THIS EASY TO SPOT

From this we created content where the fraud was ridiculously easy to spot – and ridiculously engaging.

We took over a zoo for the day and replaced real gorillas with actors in VERY real gorilla suits. When the unsuspecting public saw these gorillas they were initially fooled, but then shocked when the gorillas revealed they were frauds in very obvious ways, by playing cricket, tango dancing or sharing a latte.

The performance of the fraud gorillas drove home our idea of:

IF ONLY ALL FRAUD WAS THIS EASY TO SPOT

And then drove people to the Fraud Fighter Tool with the CTA:

HELP PROTECT YOURSELF FROM THE FRAUDSTERS

Execution

To bring to life ‘IF ONLY ALL FRAUD WAS THIS EASY TO SPOT’ we set up an ambitious hidden camera stunt.

Taking over a zoo, we swapped the real gorillas for specialist creature actors in VERY real gorilla suits. Complete with remote controlled animatronic faces.

We then filmed through 22 hidden lenses as the public came to see these magnificent animals.

Then, when they were totally fooled, we unleashed our ‘Easy To Spot’ frauds…

Suddenly our gorillas started doing something ridiculously human. Like playing cricket, sharing a latte or dancing a tango.

The performance of the gorillas, and our audience’s reactions, gave us the great footage we hoped for.

And following a massive edit we had a film that brought IF ONLY ALL FRAUD WAS THIS EASY TO SPOT to life, in a brilliantly engaging way.

Outcome

The stunt and film it created quickly became Barclaycard's most successful social content ever.

Just two weeks after launch we’d had over 3.5 million views on YouTube, even more on Facebook, and most importantly, we’d driven an uplift of 2100% in people using the Fraud Fighter Tool, meaning more people will spot fraud in time, even when it’s not as obvious as a gorilla hitting a six.
