Description
In this commercial, we are introduced to the two sides to Go Daddy. First, we meet the sexy side that Go Daddy uses to get people’s attention—represented by world-famous supermodel Bar Refaeli. Then we meet the smart side that helps you build a website that can grow your small business—represented by a nerdy Go Daddy employee named Walter. And when these two sides come together in a passionate embrace —something messy and magical happens. It’s a beautiful thing.
Execution
In "Perfect Match", we see the sexy side and the smart side of Go Daddy
coming together for an unexpected and passionate kiss. For our cast, we
needed two people who embodied these two different sides of the company.
We wanted our audience to quickly and clearly identify them as
thepersonification of those archetypes.
For the "sexy" side of Go Daddy, we were looking for someone who was the
embodiment of sexy. Beautiful, of course. But since this was the Super
Bowl we also wanted a celebrity. We were searching for someone who was
well known, but who hadn't traded on her sexuality in advertising before
(i.e. Kate Upton). The first name on our list was international supermodel
Bar Refeali. The former Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue cover girl (and
ex-girlfriend to Leonardo DiCarprio) had the resume, name recognition, and
demeanor to pull it off.
For the "smart" side of Go Daddy, we needed someone who looked like the
brains behind a major tech operation, but for this character we did not
want a famous name. We wanted it to feel like we pulled an anonymous
GoDaddy employee away from his desk and sat him down in a chair for this
commercial. We wanted the audience to identify with our "smart" side and
root for him. The reaction we wanted was "Oh my gosh, I can't believe THAT
guy is kissing Bar Refeali. Is he really kissing her? Oh no, he's still
kissing her." Basically, we needed a nerd. A huge, huge nerd. After seeing
hundreds of potential nerds, we settled on a Jesse Heiman. His face was
familiar‹having appeared as an extra in dozens of major productions but
you couldnt quite place him. He had the genuine innocence, naiveté and
charm that made him both surprising and likable.
