Overview

Background

The world had already been flooded with fake news. And then AI image generators entered the scene, creating images of anything you could imagine – even lies. With AI tech that can recreate faces, voices, text and places, it's easier than ever to trick people into falling for fake news. That's why it's more important than ever to have a news source, to avoid all that.

Execution

Once we had the idea, we needed to think about the best personalities and stories for the campaign. But it we’d have to use AI to execute the idea and make it make sense. Our art directors researched extensively and tested an exhaustive array of parameters. A few weeks and thousands of prompts later, we got these images. Visuals so incredible that you’re genuinely left in doubt as to whether they’re real photos or not. Art direction led and honed by designers and executed by a machine.

Outcome

5 sequential ads aired – 2 based on facts, 3 with false information. All with AI-generated images. The question left is: what's real? what's fake? The ads effectively promoted critical thinking and raised awareness about the dangers of fake news. The conversation continued on social media. Many people shared the campaign on their social media, including political influencers, making the subject of fake news even more debated, and of course, positioning CNN as a reliable and essential news source for today’s world.
