Background
"The Circle" emerged from a spontaneous collaboration between filmmaker Jimmy and Toboggan Producer Kishin during Jimmy's trip to Japan. The film's unique visual language, accentuated only by the ZEISS Supreme Prime 15mm lens, showcases a rich color palette aimed at translating vibrancy into life. The tight five-day schedule, with just one day for shooting, underscored the power of inspired spontaneity. Noteworthy is the unconventional use of the wide 15mm lens for close-ups, exemplified in scenes at the fish pet store, adding a surreal quality to intimate perspectives. Overcoming challenges of tight spaces, the lens played a pivotal role in transforming seemingly confined locations into expansive visual narratives, demonstrating a fresh perspective on storytelling.
Execution
The demands of life make it easy to surrender to routine. Before you realize it, you are on autopilot, just going through the motions to get through the day. As this daily cycle repeats, what was once vivid loses its luster, and what was once stimulating gives way to monotony.
Every now and then, we experience moments that break through, stimulating our senses to fill our worlds with color and emotion.
“The Circle” features four central characters: a salaryman; a woman working at a fish pet store; a handyman; and a girl making her way back and forth from school with her mom. Each character is stuck in their own routine, until a sudden urge of inspiration strikes, compelling them to break free from their “circle.”
