TEDx Guatemala City broke the record of assistance in the last 4 years. The TEDx talk in Samabaj was the most viewed in Guatemala City’s TEDx YouTube channel, and the live streaming broadcast was also viewed in more than 5 countries, including Mexico, Honduras, USA, Costa Rica and Spain. This Tedx Samabaj talk generated more than 500 tweets and over half million prints on Twitter. We reached our goal of placing TEDx Guatemala on the map for the TEDx Global organizers.

Execution

We came up with the idea of holding the first TEDx talk underwater, and since TEDx can only be held in cities, we managed to do this by searching an underwater city in Guatemala: Samabaj, “the Mayan Atlantis”. In the bottom of Lake Atitlán in the department of Sololá, we made the first underwater TEDx talk in history. We invited Roberto Samayoa, who discovered this city to talk to 10 scuba divers. The talk was filmed with 3 cameras and transmitted live via live streaming to TEDx Guatemala City, where more than 500 people saw it.

Strategy

The strategy was to develop the first underwater TEDx Talk in history to reach our target, TED Global and all who could viralize our content including mass communication means in the country and the world.
