Overview

Why is this work relevant for Film?

While the work was created for TV, cinema and online viewing experiences, film wasn't just the medium – it inspired the delivery of the message too.

The film's genre and narrative were based on actual home entertainment scenarios, with additional realism created by incorporating familiar film tropes viewers would expect from an actual live concert broadcast, such as the use of multiple camera angles (stadium-wide locked shots of the audience, telephoto shots of the artistes, shoulder-mounted close-up shots of the artistes on stage etc) and how the 'broadcast' cuts between these shots throughout the performance.

Please provide any cultural context that would help the Jury understand any cultural, national or regional nuances applicable to this work.

The portrayal of the grandmother in this film is true to the stereotypical Asian matriarch, reflected in every detail from her hairstyle and attire, right down to her mannerisms. She epitomises a strict guardian who closely monitors her grandchildren's every action, evident through her dialogue admonishing her grandson to complete his homework or face drastic consequences like having the entire TV thrown away.

As is often the case with generational differences, the grandmother finds it challenging to understand and appreciate her grandson's taste in loud and raucous metal music, resulting in a surreal moment of her coming face to face with a metal singer, before her matriarchal tendencies eventually triumph.

Write a short summary of what happens in the film

A grandma unwittingly becomes a metalhead when she walks in on her grandson watching his favourite metal band live on TV. Thanks to PRISM+’s immersive soundbar and subwoofer, she is drawn close to the source of the music and effectively becomes the lead singer’s microphone – and subject of face-melting vocals and body-breaking stage theatrics.

Background:

PRISM+ is Singapore’s fastest growing home entertainment brand. Its QLED TV and sound systems offer a high-definition, highly-immersive entertainment experience. One that draws you into the scene – quite literally.

While prominent brands often rely on stunning visual spectacles to showcase the capabilities of their products, PRISM+ sets itself apart as a fresh challenger brand through a memorable, albeit unconventional, product demonstration with a simple message, ‘As Close as You Can Get’.

Describe the Impact:

PRISM+ registered an 11% increase in TV sales in the month following the film's launch, a 22% increase in positive sentiments towards the brand and over 6.5 million reached via international media coverage – all of this with zero additional paid media amplification.
