Write a short summary of what happens in the film
This 90-second McDonald’s Christmas film follows Santa and his Reindeer delivering presents on Christmas eve. While Santa enjoys his treats left by families the Reindeer's are left empty handed and increasingly forlorn. Santa has a light-bulb moment where he can get his reindeer some well-deserved treats.
Tell the jury about type(s) of animation used and summarise any relevant challenges or techniques.
Even though our reindeer doesn’t talk, it was important to give it intelligence. As much as we wanted to create a photorealistic animal, we equally wanted the audience to feel compassion for the reindeer and we were able to achieve this by applying a certain amount of anthropomorphic expression and subtle head tilts to give it a relatable hint of humanity.
Using CG animated reindeer meant the narrative journey could be held together by the double act of Santa and his reindeer. The character animation that Framestore used meant we could engage the audience on an emotional level with the animals, rather than just having to use live-action or augments live action reindeer
