1964: Berlin is a divided city. Escaping the republic is punished with the order to shoot. Nevertheless, many people try more and more desperately to cross the border and reach freedom. They forge identity papers, dig tunnels, climb into hot air balloons - and hide in cars headed west.

But as the large vehicles are checked more and more closely, a Western Berliner has a seemingly impossible yet ingenious idea: the most inconspicuous car available at the time, the BMW Isetta, should help smuggle people across the border into the West.

In 2019, BMW and the entire German population will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. BMW wants to remember all the victims of flight with this film and create a monument to the engineer who stood up and helped the refugees.

With an extraordinary film crew and team of production designers we resurrected the Berlin of the 1960s in Budapest. Not only parts of the wall were 100% recreated from the original, but also the border crossing.
