Why is this work relevant for Direct?

Our goal with The Storyteller was to surprise gift recipients with an item that truly engages and encourages them to share the entire experience with their followers – from unboxing and assembly to the amplifier that begins narrating the story.

Every day, influencers receive so many brand gifts that all the unboxings seem quite unexciting. Impressing them for real has become almost impossible.

Background

How can Storytel, one of the world's largest audiobook and e-book streaming services, send influencers a truly special gift when its product isn't even a tangible item?

Can Storytel make the unboxing experience magical again?

Describe the creative idea

To launch the Harry Potter audiobook saga, Storytel sent influencers and journalists a gift conceived to grab attention: one of the most iconic characters from the tale, The Sorting Hat, ready to transform in their hands and become an analog amplifier.

The Storyteller, which initially appeared as a special edition book from the saga, concealing a series of sheets with detachable polygons that, one piece after the other, will take on the semblance of the Sorting Hat, designed to act as an amplifier.

Once assembled, thanks to a built-in NFC tag, just insert your phone to automatically start playing the Harry Potter audiobook on Storytel.

Describe the strategy

If unboxing is boring for gift recipients, let alone for those who watch them story after story. To build awareness for its platform, Storytel has transformed unboxing into a magical and engaging experience. Piece by piece, it led influencers and their fan base to discover its world.

Describe the execution

Shortly before the release of the Harry Potter saga on the platform, we sent out the 100 kits created for journalists and influencers. The recipients of the gift shared enthusiastically the entire experience with their followers: from the surprise of discovering the uniqueness of the object to the challenge of assembling it, all the way to the Sorting Hat starting to narrate the Harry Potter saga.
