OVERVIEW

Execution

To impact the population, we used one of the most valued Brazilian icon: its blue ocean. For 2 weeks, Sea Shepherd changed the color of the ocean on Maplink.com.br (the most popular online maps service in Brazil, that gets more than 2.5 million views per mouth). When people accessed the service to search for traffic and addresses information, they no longer saw the Brazilian seas in blue like they used to, but in red, representing the thousands of dead sharks. After receiving the alert message, the user was directed to the online petition.

Outcome

More than 460,000 people impacted in 2 weeks. 8,992 new signatures were received. A 30% increase in 2 weeks - more than was achieved since the petition was launched 1 year ago. Reported by over 15,000 times on global news websites and social networks. The campaign was praised by André Trigueiro, one of the most influential defenders of environmental causes in Brazil. 83 people have joined the Organization as affiliate members.
