Execution

We placed 15 zebra finches and an electric guitar in a bird cage. Each time the birds moved on the strings, they created unusual sounds and melodies. Previously unheard-of, unique and at the same time, simply 'different’. Just like egoFM. The showcase was launched on the open day at Munich’s University for Music and Performing Arts. The bird-guitar was presented by a fictitious artist called “Nepomuk Mozart” – by his own account a descendant of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart – who supposedly created a new interpretation of the bird catcher Papageno from Mozart’s ”Magic Flute”. ‘Nepomuk Mozart’ also participated in radio announcements, special features, interviews and live coverage on egoFM, which gave the campaign more exposure.

Outcome

Many young people saw the installation, stopping before it and listening in fascination. Many of them now have a new favourite radio station: egoFM. The station succeeded in attracting many new listeners, especially opinion leaders when it comes to music. The fictitious artist ‘Nepomuk Mozart’ was even turned into a cult figure on egoFM, being given his own programme. Click-through rates to egoFM rose by 16%.
