Arthur "The Giant" Zanetti is an olympic gold medal gymnast. In this film, his story of hardship and conquests is sung with the help of hip beats and lyrics by Brazilian rapper Rashid. Ink spattered frames contrast with the beautiful illustration alluding to Zanetti's constant strife between the beauty of an olympic career and the struggles of his life. Transitions establish important career milestones and delineate the path to his apogee. Zanetti’s film is one of 5 different films made under the same technique, but with different athletes and their conquest stories.

For Zanetti’s film, we worked with different types of animation techniques. From the traditional free-hand illustration on paper, to using a process called “rotoscoping", in which live-action models were traced one frame at a time. We worked with after effects and C4D softwares as well.

The starting point for all visuals was street art, which goes hand in hand with the rap. Our investigations for the visuals covered 3 key points: murals with narratives and urban heroes, the funk culture from the 70s and 80s, from hip hop to Miles Davis album covers, Super-hero cartoons, fantasy and comic books.

All of these elements were mashed together, aiming to illustrate the lyrics and lifestyle of athletes in a fantastical manner.
