1 out of every 3 elderly people at Las Rosas Foundation suffer from Alzheimer’s disease.
Resources don’t arrive because many people aren’t aware of the real drama behind this illness and feel it is something they do not relate with.
That´s why we created "The Waiter With Alzheimer´s": in a well-known restaurant, a waiter pretended he kept forgetting what customers had ordered, and he kept bringing them an order that was not the one that had been requested.
Not just once, but several times. After every patron showed their annoyance with the waiter, they could finally read a message aimed at them in their place mats, which said: IF FORGETFULNESS MAKES YOU SO ANGRY A COUPLE OF TIMES, IMAGINE LIVING WITH ALZHEIMER’S.
Execution
In a well-known restaurant, we put hidden cameras and waited for our customers. A waiter pretended he kept forgetting what they had ordered, and he kept bringing them an order that was not the one that had been requested. Not just once, but several times. After every patron showed their annoyance with the waiter, they could finally read a message aimed at them in their place mats, which said: IF FORGETFULNESS MAKES YOU SO ANGRY A COUPLE OF TIMES, IMAGINE LIVING WITH ALZHEIMER’S.
Outcome
• Almost 80% that people that went to the restaurant collaborate with the cause
• The phone calls and the messages in our website doubled the first week. So did the desease awareness.
• Different TV programs talked about the action and encouraged people to join Fundacion Las Rosas.
• The video on YouTube was also commented and shared by famous people, including an elderly actress.
• Wide repercussion in social media, that leaded into donations during the following days.
• Additionally, Valdivia and Talca –two of the most needed regions in the country– are already successfully replicating this action.
