Write a short summary of what happens in the film.

Creatives Nick & Nadja at advertising agency AMV BBDO and Framestore were part of a female-led team, providing animation and live action VFX for the campaign film for Libresse & Bodyform called #wombstories.

The film features six unique animated sequences which depict the inner-worlds which act as a representation of the realities of the uterus. All directed by Framestore under guidance from the film’s director Nisha Ganatra, each sequence features a distinct style of animation done by a carefully-selected team of female animators from around the world.

The film was created to dispel myths, encourage a positive conversation and address the life-changing moments in a woman’s life, from miscarriages and the menopause to endometriosis.

Tell the jury the animation / visual effects used and summarise any relevant challenges or techniques.

The styles of animation and the mediums with which they were executed were chosen by Nick & Nadja and Framestore’s creative director Sharon Lock. Each needed to be aesthetically-unique and quickly communicate stories and emotions through visuals alone.

The animation mediums feature a number of different styles including 2D Cel animation. The work also consisted of two different intricately-detailed stop frame animated sequences - one made from hand-made models and a collection of fabrics, the other using modeling clay / plasticine figures. The film also features an animated sequence of visually-arresting hand-painted images created using oil paint on glass.

Each of these animated sequences needed their own visual language but still work together with the live action elements of the film to create a single cohesive and powerful film.

Framestore also delivered invisible VFX work throughout the film’s live action portions.
