OVERVIEW

Write a short summary of what happens in the film.

The creative for the 4-minute sequence needed to include an homage to visual motifs featured in past Bond titles, created by designer Maurice Binder.

It has a strong retro style which includes a statue of Britannia in several states of decay and recognisable Bond imagery. The circle motif is a key theme and a kaleidoscope effect is used throughout.

The overarching idea was that Bond is heartbroken and his mojo is down. He wants to retire, so the colour palette followed the muted colours and natural tones. By the end, there’s an uplift of bright colours which symbolises him getting his mojo back. Along with a pop of red, in full-screen.

An iconic part of the titles of any Bond film is the gun barrel sequence and the team created a new, completely CG barrel for Daniel Craig to open his final film as 007 in No Time To Die.

The brief was to create a sequence with a retro style that wasn’t driven entirely by CGI. The creative needed to include a homage to visual motifs featured in past Bond films.

Working alongside the Director, the team curated a complex VFX led solution; The visuals and colour palette change dramatically during the titles – signifying the passage of time, and alluding to what’s to come in the film. Drawing on a team of 59 artists they delivered a mixture of CG elements, 2D assets, DMPs, effects and live action plates.

Each segment presented unique challenges whether creating realistic effects in sand, water and smoke, or animating a silhouette to move with Daniel Craig’s signature manner.

The finished title sequence features a total of 5373 frames, the content of which consists of nearly 50 separate CG and 2D assets and took over 2.5 million hours of CPU rendering time.
