BriefExplanation
Audi: Cooling Down is a simple pan around the new Audi RS4 Avant in a garage after a test lap on a circuit where it has been through the wringer! The sound of the car turning off and cooling down heard to a magnified scale, is the main story telling element of what the car has been through.
EntrySummary
The aim of the film was to show the power and beauty of the car, without ever seeing it move, through sound design alone. To tell the story through the sound of the after effects of a high performance test lap on the car as it cools down.
ScriptInOriginalLanguage
We recorded an RS4 at an airfield, pushed to the limit so much that we set the brakes on fire. We used unusual mic techniques such as an induction coil mic, like a stethoscope, to capture minute details of the cooling down process not audible to the human ear. We re-created some effects using dry ice and the effects of sublimation on various pipes and metal parts, combining it all in the studio to bring the film to life.
