STRING AND TINS, London / undefined / 2017
Overview

BriefExplanation
The film shows a lonely Cup Racer car, caged and kept in the dark only to be released on the track. The purpose of the sound design was to humanise the Cup Racer by re-inventing their engine character, accentuate their plight and loneliness, and explain the passing of time through seasonal atmospheres and repetition of certain elements outside of the realms of the picture.
ScriptInOriginalLanguage
The commercial was filmed with no sound, all sound design needed to be created in post production from scratch alongside original recordings of a Seat Cup Racer car with a multiple microphone setup using on-board microphones and also microphones from the back of a following car and trackside positions. As the film was shot over two days within one season, the sound design had to emphasise the changing of seasons to make the story work. Aside from the obvious, we laced in animal noises on the car sounds, judge’s gavel and African funeral drum hits on the garage closing, subtle radio transmissions and desolate wind whistles on the dream montages… for a bonus see if you can hear the walrus snorting.
