OVERVIEW

Why is this work relevant for Innovation?

LogFlower is Unique and artistic product which changes the form and color by the “air” (atmosphere).

Log Flower changes its appearance responding to the kind of emotion it absorbs.

This is the incomparable "EMOrnamental Plant" which visualizes the real-time condition of communication and leads people to an optimistic feeling.

Background

With this pandemic, many aspects of life have changed, such as the rise of telework. We spend more time at home with particular people. It increases some uncomfortable moments with family or housemates.

What we feel is determined by the atmosphere. In this project, we try to visualize such an atmosphere in the room. People can see their situation objectively through the plant that grows with the emotion in the room. Such findings may soften their attitudes and bring a relaxing mood to the space. Starting from this idea, we invented Log Flower.

Describe the idea

Air (atmosphere) can be thought to exist into 3 layers – air around an individual, in the community and in society. Our thinking was that, if the air around an individual changes, the air of the community would probably also change, and that could lead in some small way, to changing the air of society at large.

Based on that thinking, we explored ways on how to approach the air of individuals.

This led us to the development of an experiential product that gives shape to emotions in the air (atmosphere), making them visible, so that people become aware of the air they are giving off, creating the opportunity for people to think about how they want to communicate with and behave around others.

What were the key dates in the development process?

・Start of project : September, 2021

・Start of development : January, 2022

・Operation test : May 27-June 11, 2022

・Released : August 8, 2022

Describe the innovation / technology

AI engine “Empath” analyzes the emotions & nature of voices/words spoken, categorizing them into Joy, Anger, Sorrow & Calm.

-It absorbs the real time emotions every day.

-The specific interaction is occurred by sensing emotions.

-The logged emotions are reflected as color layers at each step of growth.

-The shape and color of the flower is determined at the last time of absorbing emotions.

Log Flower blooms in a month (30days) by absorbing the emotions in the room.

It’s a sphere seed at first, but gradually becomes a seedling by absorbing the air, then finally blooms as a flower that reflects the condition of the space.

Notice the emotions→review→change→notice again…

Users get more positive mind by repeating cycle.

Describe the expectations / outcome

A demonstration experiment conducted at a tutoring school, resulted in significant change in attitude and behavior, raising scores for positive indicators such as “Fun Emotions” up 200%, “Conversation” up 137% and “Laughter” up 132%.

It made the news, getting coverage on TV and online media, and requests for exhibition and inquiries from companies wanting to participate in its productization also poured in.

At an open exhibition, it received high praise from companies such as a luxury home builder and an HR firm, and many requests were received from the general public for its commercialization.

We are currently receiving collaboration requests from multiple companies.
