GM’s Super Bowl spot features Will Ferrell, playing himself and sporting a pandemic beard. The ad shows the comic actor facing the revelation that more than half the vehicles sold in Norway are electric. He’s forced to deal with a difficult comparison as he learns the U.S. accounts for a meager 4% of electric car sales.
Of course, Ferrell responds the only way he knows how: by losing his mind. Luckily (perhaps?) he’s brought friends along for the ride, including SNL alum Kenan Thompson and the actor Awkwafina.
The solution for Ferrell’s madness turns out to be GM’s investment in electric vehicles. It’s a continuation of the brand’s “Everybody In” campaign, which launched in January at CES when it introduced a new blue logo. In a bid to make electric vehicles more accessible, GM has promised to bring more than 30 new models to market by 2025.
