Overview

Why is this work relevant for Industry Craft?

Since the invention of air travel we’ve been taking photos out plane windows. But instead of the usual photography angle we flipped the camera to capture the wonder on passengers' faces at 35,000ft.

The photography is purposely simple - showcasing angles of the flight experience few ever get to see.

We captured each subject across different moments - gazing out in wonder, beaming with excitement - capturing the feeling of flying without any words.

Every photo is bathed in golden light to capture the warmth of timeless travel and we crop close to prove how iconic the BAbrand truly is.

Please provide any cultural context that would help the Jury understand any cultural, national or regional nuances applicable to this work.

British Airways (sometimes known as just "BA") is the United Kingdom's largest airline, and is the UK's flag carrier.

Background:

British Airways normally has quite a lot to say.

As part of its wider ‘ British Original’ platform, the airline must communicate a wide suite of functional and destination messages.

But to drive critical emotional affinity for the brand, we needed the opposite.

Something incredibly simple.

A single question.

How do you capture the emotion of flying?

The truth is, in their pursuit of cheaper, more economical offers, most airlines strip out magic and emotion.

And while destinations are brilliant - we’ve all forgotten that there’s something magical in the simple act of flying.

Of looking out the window, and letting the world change you.

And that’s what we wanted to capture here.

Tell the jury about the art direction.

Everytime we fly we look down at the world in wonder.

So for this campaign we rotated our camera and captured that unseen emotion.

We wanted to showcase an angle of the flight few ever get to see.

Our talent was shot in different moments in flight - gazing out in wonder or waking up.

Using CGI we created the plane, the weather conditions, the skylines and bathed every shot in directional sunlight to capture that timeless feeling of air travel.

Then we cropped the BA wordmark heavily to prove just how iconic British Airways are as a brand.
