Write a short summary of what happens in the film
We have documented the clothing and the people wearing it with a visual approach that felt alive and honest, stripped of artifice. Beautiful cinematic images, traveling though time, through different formats from digital to film picking out the incredible detail and craft of the garments.
Cultural/Context information for the jury
ZOZO is a fast growing online fashion retailer in Japan. Not only they sell products online, but also provide a made-to-measure service called ZOZOSUIT which takes individual body size and produces clothes perfectly fit to each customer. This film was created as a branded film for ZOZO.
The brief was to produce a film to present the brand principle of ZOZO “Be unique. Be equal”.
Our solution was not to explain what the company does, but to express how much ZOZO loves the culture of clothing and respects the people who enjoys them.
The reality of the casts were very important. Rather than employing actors, we found the casts though street casting selecting each character carefully to present the real diversity.
Tell the jury anything relevant about the direction. Do not name the director.
If we look back through the history of clothing, we could see its evolution stem from creativity, from non-conformity, and customization. This is what propels fashion forward, giving rise to unique style. But where does this creativity come from? From where is it conjured? Like Bell Hooks, we think it is found in the margins. With this film, we wanted to shine a light on those margins, discover the rich and colorful creative sparks out there on the peripheries. Outside the gates of conformity, where the artists and vagabonds live.
