BriefExplanation
Japanese children’s academic ability has been in long-term decline. The widening gap between the highest and lowest achievers is particularly alarming.
ClientBriefOrObjective
Japanese children have four forms of writing to master—the hiragana and katana syllabaries, the alphabet, and kanji characters—and reams of vocabulary to learn, and practicing their letters is excruciatingly boring. Our goal was to create a study environment that helps kids concentrate on learning how to write.
Execution
A product designer, an engineer, and a graphic designer collaborated on conceptualizing, designing, and perfecting a wooden writing board with a built-in electronic device that amplifies the sound of pen on paper and feeds it back to the writer.
