Write a short summary of what happens in the film
These two spots comprise an energetic campaign for KFC’s eye-popping promotional deals. In each of the two films, our protagonists are blown away by the great offers, screaming “What the Cluck!??!” as their features explode into cel-animated chicken counterparts of our live-action talent. The design and character animation is inspired by the cast, matching each actor to his/her extreme chicken doppelgänger as they leap into action. These instances of cel animation were designed and animated separately, then tracked into the live-action in the composite. We took enormous care over this process, even going so far as to change the shadows cast by our characters’ heads to chicken-shaped shadows cast on the ground as soon as the animation overlay comes in. Little touches like this allow the 2D illustrations to really connect to the live-action world around them.
Cultural / Context information for the jury
Erring on the side of caution, we’ll explain “What the Cluck!??!” here: it’s a pun based on the common English exclamative “What the F**k?” which is used to express bewilderment. “Cluck” is the sound that a chicken makes in English.
