ScriptInEnglish

We open to a slightly high angle shot from behind of our hero Goodluck’s taxi as it travels along one of the endless bridges floating above the lagoon leading to the city.

GOODLUCK

Every city has a heartbeat. Lagos has the heartbeat of a monster, but I love her. When I came to Lagos, I had nothing, but it was my dream to come here.

We see Goodluck washing himself, he throws water over his face and rises up from the sink to look in the mirror, we reveal a new reborn Goodluck on a new day.

GOODLUCK

As a man you must provide, work hard, and look after your family.

We see Goodluck training in a gym, face covered in sweat, his muscular body taught against the strain, press ups, sit-ups. We now see him doing pull-ups like the opening scene, but this time we reveal more. We reveal that Goodluck has one leg. We watch in

amazement, a little stunned, as he pulls himself up and down over the bar.

GOODLUCK

You have to be strong. You must overcome many challenges.

We cut to the stadium where the amputee team are playing, it is night and the field is illuminated by the stadium lights. We watch in awe as the players blast around on their crutches. We see Goodluck directing them, he is clearly the captain.

GOODLUCK

I came to Lagos to find this team. The team is part of me. Now I am its captain.

Cut to the beach, the sun is low, the men from the team are playing in the shallow surf. Goodluck is amongst them. He looks overjoyed and full of happiness, fooling around like a teenage footballer amongst friends. It’s a Goodluck we have not yet seen.

GOODLUCK

Losing my leg is not a loss, it is an advantage. It was because of the accident I found my wife.

We see Goodluck lying on his back in the wet sand as water washes over his body, he looks like he is floating on a carpet of happiness. He smiles, content as a Cheshire cat.

GOODLUCK

I found my team.

I found the life I love.

I’m a lucky man.

My name is Goodluck Obiyese.

I am Made of Black.
