CampaignDescription
The music, that talks about memory, light, shadow and legacy is the perfect inspiration for compelling and poetic images, that tells the story of the mothers and children caught up on this tradition, a mix of fiction and real life.
The film is a passion project by the director Douglas Bernardt. He was always fascinated by cultural manifestations that are tipically Brazilian and by the challenge that is to portray them through a cinematic perspective. He came across the Fire Sword War in Cruz das Almas and felt that the song had a strong connection with the essence of it. It was a perfect match.
Execution
The video was shot in june of 2017. After a lot of research about the Fire Sword Wars, the director and the crew spent one month at the region of Cruz das Almas, in Bahia, to get to know it better and hear stories by the local people, the specialists on the matter. There, they created a narrative for the video and cast local people as the actors for the video. All in the name of truthiness and verisimilitude. The result is a soulful mix of reality and fiction, a kind of genre on its own.
Outcome
The video was watched by more than 20.000 people online, a great deed for a small indie band in Brazil, and caught the attention of dozens of music media outlets that wrote about it, including one of the most circulated newspapers in Brazil. It was also selected by Vimeo Staff Picks.
Relevancy
It is relevant for an Entertainment Lion as it is a perfect visual manifestation of something very poetic as this song. The director knew how to capture exactly what the artist was trying to convey and make an impact in culture in the process, as it told the story of an ancient tradition not very known even to Brazilians.
Strategy
After producing the video, the strategy (to reach as many people as possible, within the small budget the band had) was to try to make an impact in as many specialized media outlets as we could. It was very well received and the video was also exhibited on concerts by the band.
Synopsis
The objetive was to launch the new solo project (Tagua Tagua) of Felipe Puperi, singer and frontman of Wannabe Jalva, one of the most prominent indie bands in Brazil. He wanted an impactful and very soulful music video to convey what he was trying to achieve artistically with his first single.
