CampaignDescription

According David Gianatasio Adweek's editor "Saavedra’s frequently nutsy narrative, set during a sunny, sleepy Italian summer, suggests the often ambiguous nature of stories themselves. It reminds us that telling tall tales remains central to the human condition, while interpretations and takeaways can vary wildly, adding considerable spice to life.

“The Red Stain” breezily mixes familiar styles, its initially grounded comic set-up upended by all manner of odd goings-on, served up with a Euro art-house twist. It plays at times like a continental Wes Anderson homage, with a vintage sitcom sensibility and dash of Rashomon tossed in. Young American Billy brings a wine-splattered shirt to the dry-cleaning business of an elderly Italian couple. After he leaves, they spend hours spinning increasingly intricate, improbable yarns about the origin of the stain. This, in turn, leads them to wonder about Billy’s identity."

Execution

It was shot over three days in Italy, in a small town close to Rome. In terms of production was more complex: for example The music was composed exclusivly for the short-film by Antfood teamed up different composers in São Paulo, Amsterdam, and New York offices cultivated a dozen original cues inspired by 50 years of cinematic scoring. They Follow Billy through good and not so good times in Saavedra’s narrative bouquet, featuring notes of intrigue, romance, and nuttiness. A finest process was invest into the Production Design, that was in charge of the well known PD Francesca Di Mottola. A team of graphics designers, illustrators and motion graphics designers were teamed up by Mosh post production house, to give life to the well -overwhelming -hyperbole narrative outcome.

Outcome

The reach was marvellous: At Sundance the premiere was at a packed audience, with an excellent impact from the public and specialized press*. Then NOWNESS premiered it at its well-known website and social media platforms, after that was selected as Vimeo's Short of the Week. It won a Bronze at The One Show Awards by The One Club for Creativity, in Feature Film Length category. It was shortlisted at Shorts Shorts Asia & Japan Branded Content festival, an official Academy Awards Festival to be held next June at Tokyo, Japan.

Relevancy

By a simple but not least clever operation, The Red Stain's plot resignifies the role of storytelling in film, presenting main characters as the story writers. The Red Stain's explores gracefully that particular mixed field: Advertising meets Cinema. Executing it with a top notch craft. The piece was commissioned by the Coppola’s Family for the unveiling of Francis Ford Coppola Winery latest wine :"Director's Cut". The Red Stain's was exclusively premiered during Sundance Film Festival, cradle of the American indie movement, in front of a packed audience.

Strategy

The script’s strategy consisted in trying to see how far and labyrinthine paths could reach the idea of the main characters as storytellers. Almost like in a "Choose Your Own Adventure” game-books where each story was written from a second-person point of view, here Luca and Claudia Andreonni, assumed the role of the storytellers, and they make choices that determines the plot's outcome, or the many lives of Billy.

On a production model level, the strategy was to build an harmonic symbiosis between three production companies, which worked perfectly for the success of the film.
