Why is this work relevant for Film Craft?

For the creation of this film piece, the casting was done solely by selecting people who belong to the trans community. We did not consider their acting skills or previous experience in projects of this kind.

Please provide any cultural context that would help the Jury understand any cultural, national or regional nuances applicable to this work.

In March 2021, amid the quarantine caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, we were forced to leave our home. It was a house that provided shelter to various people, including transgender sex workers, gender non-conforming individuals, transgender women who were victims of armed conflict, those who had been incarcerated, homeless people, and activists who had fought for this place through their struggle for safety and well-being. This refuge stood as a bastion against police violence and transphobia, offering a safe and welcoming space. It's important to note that we, transgender people, face a higher risk of suicide compared to the rest of the population, emphasizing even more the significance of these refuges as crucial places of support and resistance.

Therefore, losing our home, which supports more than 600 transgender people by providing legal, psychological, and even healthcare access, creates a huge gap in the pursuit of equality and respect for our fundamental rights.

Write a short summary of what happens in the film.

The music film accompanies the journey of the activists as they are evicted. The video is a dramatization that takes place in the same neighborhood where the headquarters was located. The camera follows the trans community as they are kicked out by the police, hurriedly gather their belongings and meet each other up on the street, thus disintegrating the home that welcomed them as a network. Once outside they wander the streets and vogue dance while lip-syncing the song that narrates their story. Different scenes showcase the surroundings buildings while illustrations of different trans objects from the e-commerce come to life. The uniqueness of the different characters in the film showcase distinct and bold personalities. The video closes while they regather in colorful clothing and call out the vulnerability and high death rate trans population represents nowadays.

Background:

- Situation

We were evicted against our will from the house, due to pressure from neighbors and the police.

- Brief

To reclaim our space to continue working for the transgender community.

- Objectives

To have a physical space that shelters our community and continue to work for the rights of people with diverse gender identities.

Tell the jury about the casting process.

Since it is a self-financed production, it was starred by members of the Trans Community Network. Who better to recreate the eviction than the activists themselves? Each member portrayed a particular characteristic which highlighted issues each of them experienced.
