CampaignDescription
First, we demonstrated that whole cities can protect their walls with superhydrophobic coating against public urinators.
Then, we communicated that everybody should be able to do so.
Therefore, we developed the handy Peeback Spray, perfectly suited for private households.
Execution
The superhydrophobic coating is based on nanotechnology and has to be sprayed on a surface you want to protect.
We found out that it can reflect urine.
Many cities like Cologne, Mainz and San Francisco, Gold Coast and London continued the action.
Now, together with the manufacturer we make this coating available for private households.
The superhydrophobic effect lasts for one year.
Outcome
With over 5 million views on YouTube and worldwide headlines, we created more than 400 million media impressions. This media attention created a whole new target group of private persons and the worldwide demand to pee back raised massively. The original action, "St. Pauli Peeback", became trademark and gained a veritable image that we can rely on, regarding the communication of the Peeback Spray.
This product is designed for a long term outcome and makes the whole world a danger zone for public urinators. Available on Peebackspray.com
And, of course, we forced public urinators to reconsider their behavior.
Relevancy
In Hamburg St. Pauli, we created the first large-scale solution against public urinators.
Because we found out that a superhydrophobic industrial coating can reflect urine and sprayed it on most frequented walls and facades in the city. This made for wet pants and shoes. Public urinators reconsidered their behaviour and the city’s issue with public urination was minimized. Many cities (London, Mainz, Cologne, San Francisco, Gold Coast) continued the action and thousands asked where to buy the coating. Now we make this innovation accessible to everyone. With the handy Peeback Spray, perfectly suited for private households
Synopsis
St. Pauli has over 20 million visitors every year, making it Hamburg’s most famous party district. But despite prohibitions, fines and public toilets, drunks simply pee wherever they like. We used a superhydrophobic coating to change this. This coating is so water-repellent that liquids such as urine splash right back. With zero media investment we achieved over 5 million clicks on YouTube and 400 million media impressions – and many other cities continued the action. And then, together with the manufacturer, we developed a new product for private households.
