"Kent and Val" is a short film that demonstrates the Barclays initiative of Digital Eagles, in which Val - a trained Barclays member of staff - helps Kent to get online and connect with his family on Skype for the first time.

The Digital Eagles are specially trained branch staff who are available to help anyone to gain confidence online, and show them how to get to grips with the basics of the internet.

Kent and Val are part of a series of films showing the benefits of getting online, particularly in older age.

Initiating a period of internal transformation, CEO Antony Jenkins pledged to make Barclays socially useful, putting a new brand purpose at the heart of his turnaround plan: ‘Helping people achieve their ambitions – in the right way’.

This vision inspired Barclays UK employees to create a plethora of their own purpose-driven initiatives. We were tasked with communicating the cultural transformation that was happening from the inside out.

We needed to drive understanding that Barclays is the only purpose and values-driven global bank.

We took our inspiration from the CEO of Personal and Corporate Banking, Ashok Vaswani,

who had a vision for Barclays helping customers achieve their ambitions in the digital age, which brought added relevance to the new brand purpose:

“The digital revolution is going to have an even more profound effect on our lives than the industrial. All revolutions have a social cost, and our role is to make sure that we take everyone forward and leave no-one behind on this journey.”

We decided to communicate the ongoing internal initiatives that were helping Britain’s people develop the skills they need to contribute fully to the economy of today, as well as contribute to the economy of the future.
